It wasn’t all that long ago when New York State’s finest amateur athletes were as well known and revered as any professional. When school-kids dreamed of being the next big basketball, track, lacrosse, soccer or wrestling star. When they hung their sports hero’s posters in their rooms and wore their jersey numbers during the season. When every kid set their sights on winning gold at the Empire State Games. Who knows - you or your children may very well have been one of them.
